The federal minimum wage increase takes effect July 24, moving from the current $6.55 to $7.25.
Twenty-nine states currently have minimum wages below the $7.25 mark, and are likely to adjust to the federal requirement in response. Seven states currently set minimum pay at $7.25, while 14 states and Washington, D.C., exceed the soon-to-be federal mandate.
The minimum wage went up July 1 in three states: Illinois ($8), Kentucky ($7.25) and Nevada ($7.55).
